We saved the seeds from the green tree collard plants in Summer of 2019. They come in packages of approximately 30 seeds and can be shipped in both the US and internationally. In the US, shipping is free.
Green tree collards are a perennial brassica plant hardy to 25°, possibly lower. They grow similarly to purple tree collards except they have green stems and their leaves do not turn purple. They also tend to go to seed every year. Personally, we prefer the purple tree collard plants because they don’t lose their vigor in the spring as green collards do while flowering. However, green tree collards have a more mild and classic collard taste and appearance. Many permaculture and food forest enthusiasts may wish to cultivate a variety of tree collards to enhance naturalization and year found food production.
These seeds will not be true to type due to cross-pollination with other brassicas on the farm. If you want to grow green tree collards identical to the ones we sell, please purchase cuttings or rooted plants. (they are not always in stock since we don’t propagate or take cuttings while they are flowering). The seed will likely produce vigorous, leafy brassica plants that may be of interest to plant breeding enthusiasts. They flower at the same time as the dino collards so they may produce some interesting crosses.
