Description
This hardy perennial yarrow (Achillea filipendulina) has feathery gray-green foliage and beautiful yellow flowers. Parker’s Variety of Yarrow is long-lasting and gorgeous in arrangements. It also blooms for several months in the garden, attracting a multitude of beneficial insects. As with other yarrows this cultivar forms spreading clumps of deeply-dissected, fern-like and aromatic foliage. Beginning in May or June, tall (3’-4’) long stems shoot up which bear golden yellow flowers in dense and flattened clusters as large as 4” across.
Yarrow is an excellent companion to tree collards and apple trees. Every permaculture food forest, vegetable garden, or ornamental garden benefits from plants such as Yarrow. It looks particularly beautiful in the garden next to Lavender, Barberry, Santolina, Rosemary, Catmint, and ornamental grasses. Deer resistant.
Yarrow prefers full sun in most gardens and can tolerate dry well-drained soils. Plant 12 inches apart. Perennial in USDA zones 3-10.
